The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) is seeking an
Elevator Maintenance Mechanic to join its team.
The Work You Will Do The
Elevator Maintenance Mechanic Performs standard elevator procedures, trains other journeymen on specific skills and tasks as needed, determines whether equipment should be repaired or replaced, and estimates the materials required for specific job components.
Elevator Maintenance Mechanic: - Performs standard elevator procedures. Monitors and maintains elevators on the university campus(es).
- Responds to emergencies on university campus(es). Assists trapped passengers. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
- Determines materials required for maintenance or remodeling. Purchases materials and services. Initiates requests for materials.
- Prepares reports and maintenance records as needed
- Trains other journeymen on specific skills and tasks as required.
- Initiates work orders for elevator maintenance repairs.
The hourly rate range for this position is $47.84-$56.73. Job Qualifications The ideal candidate for the position of elevator maintenance mechanic meets the following preferred qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with Motion controls
- Experience working with GAL door equipment
All candidates for the position must meet the following minimum qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of cable and hydraulic elevators.
- Through knowledge of city and state building codes and elevator codes.
- Familiarity with major elevator manufacturers and equipment.
- Knowledge of all elevator mechanical functions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated communication skills
- Most possess valid/current city of Los Angeles Department of Building Services elevator mechanic Journey level license and state of CA certified competent conveyance mechanic (CCCM) General Certification
- Currently hold a valid California driver's license for a minimum of two years

Minimum Education:
Less than high school
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience:
3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of both cable and hydraulic elevators.
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum work experience
Minimum Skills:
Thorough knowledge of city and state building codes and elevator codes.
Familiar with major elevator manufacturers and equipment.
Knowledge of all elevator mechanical functions.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated communication skills.
