As a Sushi Chef, this position will be responsible for preparing and filling customer orders and handling food in a safe manner. You will order and receive products; ensure orders are correct; label, date and put product away. Additionally you will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members. Primary duties include preparing fresh sushi for customers both packaged and made-to-order, providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, greeting customers, answering telephone calls, assisting customers with product location and requests, working as a team and providing training, practicing proper sanitation procedures, overseeing food ordering and planning, communicating with customers, aiding in merchandising techniques and food layout, attending meetings, adhering to company policies, and reporting to work on time. Secondary duties include planning and performing fresh sushi demonstrations, staying current on meal trends and menu planning, and performing other job-related duties and special projects. Education and experience required include high school or equivalent with Hy-Vee food safety training and Food Safety Certified, one to three years of similar or related work, and preferred prior experience in meal preparation. Physical requirements include ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds constantly, various physical activities, and specific visual requirements. Knowledge and skills include logical thinking, arithmetic calculations, composing correspondence, following manuals, and customer interaction. Working conditions involve exposure to raw fish, flour, dust, noise, temperature extremes, cleaning chemicals, and a fast-paced environment. Equipment used includes oven, steamer, scale, mixer, shrink wrap machine, re-ordering machine, register, walk-in cooler, knives, serving cases, and C.A.R.S. system. Contacts include daily contact with internal customers and the public, weekly contact with suppliers and vendors, and contact with government agencies as necessary.
