Job Details
- Works under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor and Director.
- Plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Provides occupational therapy services in inpatient and outpatient settings during assigned shift during department operating hours, including rotation of weekend and holiday coverage.
- Evaluates patients on physician’s referral, develops treatment plans and goals, administers procedures and modalities specific to patient needs and age, and plans for discharge using appropriate Occupational Therapy techniques.
- Acts as a case manager for assigned patients.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and current patient records.
- Re-evaluates and revises patient’s treatment plan regularly with physician approval as necessary.
- Provides patient, family/caregivers with age-appropriate instruction regarding therapy procedures and home program.
- Instructs patient and family/caregiver in care and use of assistive and adaptive equipment.
- Communicates with rehabilitation team members, family, physicians, and third party payers regarding patient progress and program changes.
- Attends and participates in inter/intradepartmental services and meetings as required.
- Participates in short and long term program development and committees as requested.
- Participates in student intern and/or volunteer program as appropriate.
- Provides supervision to occupational therapist assistant.
- Maintains clean, safe and orderly treatment areas and equipment.
- Assists with orientation and supervision of other health care professionals as appropriate.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, coworkers, patients and other hospital personnel.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in service meetings, and workshops within assigned specialty areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- One year experience in acute hospital or outpatient hand clinic preferred; new graduates will be considered.
- Good basic clinical skills in occupational therapy evaluation and treatment.
- Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families/caregivers, physicians, and coworkers.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to work in a team setting.
- Knowledge of existing laws and regulations governing the practice of Occupational Therapy.
Schedule Information
- Assigned shift during department operating hours.
- Includes rotation of weekend and holiday coverage.
